Snowmen and Christmas trees are often a staple in a wood-turners repertoire, simple classic designs that allow the practice and development of skills. They also allow for an infinite number of iterations that allows for each turner to make them their own. For us in our Highwood Furniture workshop they have offered a fun way to get in the Christmas spirit. These creations have joined us on our outing to the only Christmas market we have done this season which was our most local Alyth market. Our little collection proved popular selling out in less than an hour, with further orders coming in since.
At Highwood Furniture we use a range of traditional wood working and cabinetry techniques in our workshop; including a range of joinery, milling, jointing and planing, steam bending, carving, shaping and molding, through to meticulous sanding and finishing of your wooden furniture. Wood turning is part of this - useful for table and chair legs and other parts, as well as for some of our smaller product range of handles, vases, and other items. Christmas has provided us with the perfect opportunity to have fun with this technique.
All of that said, our star of this season’s Christmas sales has been unexpectedly our porridge spurtle, which seems to have gained traction in particular through the Perthshire Artisans web shop. This traditional Scottish kitchen utensil appears to be making a comeback - more available on our webshop!
